ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hi, I’m Matthew Ben-Gera, a high school student who loves the strategy and evolving dynamics of both Formula 1 and finance.  I’m fascinated by how decisions, risk, and performance shape outcomes, both on the track and in business.  I created Profits and Pit Stops to make financial concepts clear and approachable for beginners, because I believe finance shouldn’t be intimidating.  As the course’s founder and author, I use real examples from F1 to explain topics like budgeting, revenue, and sustainability in a way that’s easy to understand.  I hope you enjoy the course as much as I enjoyed creating it.

ABOUT PROFITS AND PIT STOPS

Are you looking for a fun and beginner-friendly way to start learning about fundamental financial principles?  Have traditional finance courses been overwhelming and confusing?  Are you interested in topics that are relevant today, like sustainability finance?

Profits and Pit Stops is designed to make learning about money clear, approachable, and genuinely interesting, using the fast-moving world of Formula 1 to bring financial ideas to life.  Whether you’re an F1 fan or just want real-world examples to help financial concepts make sense, this course offers a simple and easy way to get started.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to do all of this—and more:

  • Understand key financial concepts through the real-world example of Formula 1 racing.

  • Explore how F1 teams manage their money, from sponsorships and cost caps to how they stay competitive within strict financial rules.

  • Learn what financial resilience looks like in global sports, and how F1 teams adapt to challenges like rising costs, global events, or economic downturns.

  • Examine how rules like cost caps and capital expenditure limits shape competition in Formula 1 and help create a more balanced playing field.

  • Understand the financial side of sustainability in F1, including how teams and host cities invest in greener practices—and how that affects their budgets.

  • See how taxes and global business decisions affect teams and drivers, including why many are based in places like Monaco or the UK.

  • Compare Formula 1’s financial system with other sports, like the NFL, to better understand how different models affect fairness, revenue, and competition.

  • Connect what you learn to real business ideas, like managing risk, attracting sponsors, calculating return on investment, and building financial strategies that last.

Don’t be intimidated, it will all make sense.
This is a free course, so you have nothing to lose!
